Customs: Gatekeeper Identification Requirements

If you are applying for an Individual, Non-Individual or ABN-DSC Authorised Officer Digital Certificate you need to complete an identification check. The identification check can be done at selected Australia Post outlets and is just like doing a 100 point check when opening a bank account.

There are two types of identification checks; personal and organisation checks. The type of check required depends on the type of certificate you are purchasing.

Note: The ABN-DSC Standard and Device Certificate identifcation check is completed by the Authorised Officer.

Personal Identification Check

To verify an applicant's identity, you will need to present original evidence of identity documents at selected Australia Post outlets to the value of 100 points. You will be notified via email when to provide these documents to Australia Post. This is normally done during certificate enrolment. Please do not send these documents to Symantec. The documents presented must contain the following elements:

  • 1 primary document
  • Recognisable photograph
  • Signature
  • Current Residential Address
  • Date of Birth

Organisation Identification Check

To verify the identity of an organisation named in an application, applicants are provided to supply an original document as evidence of the legal identity of the organisation.

ABN-DSC: Please select one of the documents listed below.
Your EOI document must be certified by a third party who is eligible to sign Statutory Declarations. The person who certifies must provide their name, status and contact phone number. See Statutory Declaration Signatory List.

Non-Individual:
Grade 1 & 2 - Please select one of the documents listed below.
Grade 3 - Please select one of the documents listed below plus notice from the Australian Business Register.

+ A lease agreement of a business property.

You must provide a copy of the Trust Deed. The whole of the deed is not required, only the following sections:

  • Cover Page
  • Index/Contents Page
  • First Schedule (should list Trustee Name, date, etc.)
  • Signature Page

Which Australia Post outlets will process my application?

Australia Post have over 880 outlets where you can complete your identification check. To find the most suitable location for you please refer to the KeyPOST Homepage. Under the heading "KeyPost Authorised Outlets" there is a location guide for each state.
